New for January, February and March 2010…
Mystery Tours of Longleat House
You may well have paid a visit to Longleat House in recent times but have you poked around in Longleat’s cupboards, peeked behind closed doors and seen parts of the House previously closed to visitors?
Head Guide, Ruth Charles says, “We ran a hugely popular VIP package for groups over the winter and people have just loved learning about the quirky side of the House.
“We are now building on this and will be offering some brand new tours for January to March 2010: Open Cupboards, Meet the Ancestors, Behind the Scenes, and Architecture Tours.”
Subject to your chosen tour you could get to see the hidden cavity behind the library books in the Green Library where the 2nd Marquess hid to avoid talking to visitors; see inside the exquisite Louis XV games table to reveal the board games hidden within; glimpse the recently discovered stone steps leading from the garden passage into the garden and more!
Find out about the silver coins from the 16th century shuffleboard table in the Great Hall of Longleat House and learn why they have the initials IT when the owner was John Thynne or see if you can spot the Servants Door in the Breakfast Room. These are just some of the questions that may be explored and answered.
“I am so excited about what we can now offer at Longleat,” confirmed Ruth. “Through these new VIP Tours for Groups, we can now show visitors previously unseen areas of the House. I’ve even had staff asking how they can book onto them!”
“The joy of the January to March tours is that you also get to lunch in Lord Bath’s private Banqueing Suite – how exciting is that?"
