Longleat ...experience the magic

Make sure you finish your Passport Ticket before we close!

Amur Tiger

With only four weeks to the close of season and half-term approaching fast, this is a gentle reminder to all of you still with valid Passport Tickets to come back and finish your ticket off before we close (Sunday 4 November 2007)*!

The Passport Ticket includes once-only entry into all 11 of the Longleat attractions… if you still have ‘unpunched’ attractions on your ticket then come back to see us as the ticket cannot be carried over into the 2008 season.

* Although the Safari Park and smaller attractions close on the 4 November 2007, Longleat House remains opens until 31 December 2007 (excl Christmas Day). The House portion of the Passport Ticket will still be valid until this date… maybe come back to the House for a tour, do some Christmas shopping in Lady Bath's Shop and have something tasty in the Cellars Restaurant. Please check www.longleat.co.uk or telephone 01985 844400 for opening details

Latest news  – Longleat House

Latest on the ScaffoldingLatest on the Scaffolding!…
The scaffolding has been removed from most of the front of Longleat House (although the East elevation is still scaffolded) as work on renewing the lead on the roof continues.

The project, which is being undertaken by the Shepton Mallet-based firm Ellis and Co, should be finished around Easter 2008 and will have cost Longleat over £1,000,000 to complete!

It is believed to be the biggest scaffolding project on a domestic residence in Britain today and involves 20 miles of metal piping making up the giant scaffolding… stretched end to end this would be more than 3 times taller than Mount Everest!

A massive white temporary roof (the size of 5 tennis courts) has been put in place to protect both the builders and the roof during extreme weather conditions.

It is envisaged that 60 tonnes of lead will be replaced during the project! The lead is being brought in from Leicestershire where it has been traditionally sand cast. As the work progresses the old lead is being transported back to the foundry where it will be melted down to be re-used later in the project – recycling at its best!

Lower Dining Room CeilingTour route reopens!…
Visitors to Longleat House earlier this year will be aware that the tour route was altered due to cracks found in the Lower Dining Room Ceiling.

Although the ceiling is still under investigation, the tour route has opened up once more to include the second floor of the House although the State Dining Room which is immediately above the Lower Dining Room is only available to view over a rope.

If you visited earlier this year when the altered route was in place, then Longleat would be delighted if you would like to revisit this winter (up to 31 December 2007, excluding Christmas Day).

Bring your Passport Ticket with you to show proof of purchase and you will be entitled to a visit to the House free of charge!

Please Note: Longleat may restrict the tour to the ground floor only during October half-term (Saturday 20 October to Sunday 4 November 2007 inclusive) for conservation reasons. Please telephone 01985 844400 if further details are required.
