Longleat House Scoops Silver in Top Tourism Award

Longleat is delighted to announce that Longleat House took Silver in the “Best Tourism Experience of the Year” category in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2009-2010. The Awards Ceremony took place on Monday night at the Saunton Sands Hotel, North Devon.
The England for Excellence awards are known as the ‘Oscars’ of the tourism industry as they aim to promote and reward the leading businesses and individuals within the tourism sector. As South West Tourism states “Entrants needed to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service, exemplary facilities and informative and inspirational websites along with a commitment to sustainability and being accessible to all.”
Ruth Charles, Head Guide of Longleat House confirmed “We are absolutely thrilled to have taken silver in this prestigious tourism award. We only started the tours last winter so it is incredible to get such recognition so early on. I understand that competition was really high for this category so the award is

even more pleasing. It is hard to believe how much we have achieved in year one of these VIP tours… roll on year two!”
Ruth added “The feedback from visitors on the tours has been quite fantastic and visitors seem to love going behind the scenes and really exploring the House. I have always said that once I see a door saying Private, then I really want to know what’s behind it! These tours are not about visiting the state rooms or admiring the exquisite paintings and furniture of Longleat House, they are more a chance to peek in cupboards and behind closed doors. It’s like being given the keys to a stately home and just being told to have a good nose around. And this is precisely what we do!”
The Longleat House Winter VIP Tours are offered from November through to March. Although they are fully booked for November/December 2009, there is still some availability for certain dates in January to March 2010.
